Norfolk Bed & Breakfast
Once they were feared, traditional seaside landladies, back in the industrial past when whole towns would close down; and head for the coast on mass. The B&B industry did a roaring trade people escaped to the seaside and accepted the conditions of the guesthouse for whatever they were.
Times change after a long spell of being unfashionable B&B’s are now often considered trendy, chic even described often as boutique, how the times have changed.
We as a nation covet lifestyle; so much of our television promotes homes, design, and even a programme called “four in a bed” follows the fortune of Bed & Breakfast operators from different parts of the country, staying in each others guest houses and then critically appraising each with a winning house each week voted for by the other participants.
The name of the game is comfort. Every modern electrical appliance can be found, the showers are power, the baths like those of a spa. The operators have to compete hard for business and at the top end of the market they can truly compete with the most modern hotels.
Not only have the rooms had the treatment, read many of the websites, blogs and newsletters of bed and breakfast establishments and you begin to realise that the catering and menus offered are also taken very seriously indeed.
Fantastic tables laid with style and panache and a menu that would satisfy the gourmand.
However, when we straw polled our prospective clientele the survey said that over ninety percent of us would still prefer the traditional English Breakfast, a good old fry up.
So if you would like a weekend in the country and a great five-mile English breakfast, Norfolk sausages, Papworth’s bacon, eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes and toast come to Meadowside Barn North Norfolk.
Five-mile? All ingredients have traveled no further… we are measuring our carbon footprint, but that’s a whole new story…
