Cromer has records of a pier dating back as far as the fourteenth century, many structures have been built and destroyed over the years the current one was completed and opened to the public in 1902. It has been badly damaged by recent storm surges in 2007 and then again on the 5th of December 2013, however it still stands defiantly, 140 metres out into the North Sea.

The pier has many attractions to entertain locals and holidaymakers alike. On a warm day the numbers of small children and some not so small, can be seen hanging over the side rails ‘crabbing’ a number of the ‘bucket and spade’ shops sell you the full kit, bits o’ bacon too for a few pounds, excellent value for money.

Today wasn’t such a great day for the crabbers it was rather blustery and cold, traditional bank holiday weather. The pier was still very busy with those promenading, drinking, eating, just generally enjoying the seaside on Good Friday.

This evening you can watch a tribute And Finally… Phil Collins’ present… ‘The Best of Phil Collins Tour’ at the Pavilion Theatre, they have a lot of tribute bands at the Pavilion…if you don’t fancy ABBA you could just enjoy a drink in the bar?
The Cromer pier show is the annual highlight, starting on 21st June and running through until September 20th.

The real highlight for Barn & Beach is the Lifeboat house on the end of the pier, Cromer has had a lifeboat station for over two hundred years the current one on the end of the pier is an Explore  station, visit recommended.
‘Explore stations offer the best visitor experience. With free access, you can go inside and look around the station, see the lifeboat and, in most cases, pre-book a tour. They are normally open all year and have an RNLI gift shop’

The pier is only one of many attractions this famous old seaside town has to offer. There are lots more features to highlight maybe for next years A to Z Challenge…others who are taking the A to z Challenge 2014.
